Fight the Frump- Oprah Joins The Fun
Oprah did a whole show devoted to Fighting the Frump with Fussy makeovers. Here is a little snippet-
"Do you run errands in your pajamas? Are your husband's sweats a staple in your wardrobe? If the answer is yes, you may be a shlumpadinka. Though this word isn't in Webster's Dictionary—yet—Oprah says she knows a shlumpadinka when she sees one. "I made this word up a long time ago," she says. "It represents, for me, a woman who dresses like she has completely given up…and it shows."
Whatevah, as The Tempered Woman said, "It's Frumpadinka not Schlumpadinka!"
Here is an example of her magic non-schlumpadinka-frumpy makeover. This woman is breaking all the Fight The Frump Mandates.
Oprah's Fight the Frump Expert Guest Stylist did a totally Fussy approved makeover. Except for that bag. I would never approve that bag. Ack!
Does this remind you of Fussy's Supa-Fab Advice?
My beloved trousers slacks pants & a cute jacket.
They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I guess we'll continue to let Oprah play along. Seriously, Oprah, next time at least throw us some linky love, Sheesh!
Now, Frump Fighters, it is your turn. Remember to link in to your specific Frump Fighting post's URL. When you type in your blog name also say what your topic is. Use the graphic and link back here. Have fun!
My love to all my Fabulous Frump Fighters (and you too, Oprah),
Fussy

yeah, that Oprah (whoever she is) is totally rippin' off your idea! ;0)

How dare Oprah steal you thunder!
Sorry, I didn't put my topic in Mr. Linky.
Please forgive.
This week I posted about weight loss.

Love ya, Fussy!

Who is this Oprah anyway? She can't be more famous than Fussy.
We're still Fighting the Frump of our innards this week. More good stuff to help fight Mommy brain!

Ha! Ha! Thanks for the early morning giggle!

Ooooh, I wish I'd caught that episode of Oprah. You know, it's really rude of these TV personalities to plagiarize you and not even give credit, Miss Fussy. I think you should raise a ruckus. ;-)

You are so right Fussy. Oprah who?
Posted by: HRH | February 22, 2008 at 07:02 AM
my topic is 'breaking up is hard to do' regarding suits. I linked to the Oprah show on my blog earlier this week. For the other posters: if you're interested in more looks, just go to oprah.com and look for the shlumpadinka info..

I just knew that at some point during the program that I would hear her say "And Thank You to my inspiration for today's show Mrs. Fussypants." But nope not a word.
I also got ahead of the game and did not put my topic in Mr. Linky. Today we will be learning about shoes over my way.

You might just turn me into an Oprah fan.
I enjoyed your post.
Mine is about quick and easy non-frumpy nails.

my topic is "get rid of the granny panties" . It was supposed to be about panties AND bras, but it turns out that I had a lot more to say about cheap ugly underwear than I thought....I'll save the bras for next week

Whoa! My name in lights along with Ms. Fussy AND Oprah?!! I feel very flush.
It's so funny cause I don't usually watch Oprah but it was on at the gym and I was trapped into the treadmill right in front of it. On the other hand, I try not to miss my daily Fussy fix.

I loved that show!!
I am currently taking an inventory of my summer wardrobe (for next weeks post) and figuring out what I am going buy this year!
I have one lovely track suit that I am not getting rid of though. It is black and pink and I look HOT in it!!
Posted by: Connie | February 22, 2008 at 08:21 AM
I'm not an Oprah watcher but I caught 5 or 10 minutes of it before I turned it off and thought of you!
Posted by: Michelle | February 22, 2008 at 08:35 AM
Gosh. You know, I totally disagree. I think a woman in a track suit and tennis shoes says, "I'm ready for a long day on my feet with my kids." I dress up when there is an occasion, and I'm not afraid to dress down. When I see a Mom show up at the school with an outfit on with black pants and a jacket, I think, "Where is your head? You don't work. Do you want a corporate job? Or do you just want to fool us?" It just doesn't seem to fit the 8AM mom.
I was very much doubting myself on this the other day, showing up in my still beloved carpenter jeans and white long tshirt and tennis shoes. The principal motioned me to the door (obviously for a fashion citation, or to tell me one of my other kids were in trouble, right?) He asked me to take part in a leadership position generally known by jackets.
So, I don't think you have to look like you always have it together. I don't think this woman looks like she's given up on life. To me, it looks like she is emmersed in it. She shouldn't go out on a date like that, and hopefully she has some special days...but I love moms who are comfortable in the roll without having to put on airs. I hope we can factor that back in.

Hey, Fussy, I like to look hot all the time! You don't have to look frumpy to be immersed in life! Sometimes I look frumpy, sometimes I look hot. I strive for hot, but it is way down the list from my other priorities. If I can fit it in, I hope I am not judged by the women who don't. Likewise, if I can't fit in in some days, I hope I am not judged by the women who do.
Maggie, this is directed to your comment. I, too, love moms who are comfortable in the roll without having to put on airs, but I don't exclude the ones who make the time to look cute (as long as they don't try to make the frumps feel bad for it, which I now see goes both ways, eh?).
Sorry, Fussy, for getting defensive in comments, but I'm a little weary of moms getting dissed for wanting to look good while they're getting on their daily grind.
And, oh, I wrote about Bathina Body So Fine today in my Fight the Frump Post.
Have a great day!

Dre, you go girlfriend. ;)
It IS Fight the Frump Friday after all, ladies! Booyah!
I'm usually not down with Oprah, but hey... If she's a friend of Fussy's, she's a friend of mine! Go, Fussy!
I wrote about getting rid of the grundy nursing bra. If closeup pics of cute bras offend you... avoid my post today.

That Oprah is a freaking LIAR! She did not make up the word shlumpadika. Not even close. It's YIDDISH and well known to Jews around the world. Man, that burns me.
Posted by: margalit | February 22, 2008 at 09:30 AM
Margalit, you are kidding! That's yiddish? Well now I feel like a total fazaza for believing that mashugana (yeah, no way I spelled those right).
Posted by: Dre the Texican | February 22, 2008 at 09:41 AM
i know that shlump is yiddish. 100%. but i'm NEVER heard of shlumpadinka...but i kinda like that oprah makes up her own words, since i do it all. the. time.
but i don't approve of her stealing your ideas! :)
but the bag? i like the bag!
Posted by: ali | February 22, 2008 at 10:02 AM
I don't have my own post to share, but I love this weekly feature. I will be thinking about what I can add in the future. So fun!
Posted by: nicole | February 22, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Yes, do tell those of us who are little more fashion illiterate. Why doesn't Fussy like the bag?
Posted by: Tea Party Girl | February 22, 2008 at 10:50 AM
I am a structured bag fan.
I think that floppy bags look, well frumpy!
I avoid any bulk that falls around waist level! I don't need any help looking round! ;)

Maggie, I am sorry that you feel like we are putting on airs when we try not to look frumpy when we go places. I am a working mother so, yes I do have to look presentable most of the time. I have noticed though that I feel more confident when I a care about how I look. When I am more confident, I feel I can accomplish more things. Now thats just me talking, if you feel more comfortable and confident in a t-shirt and tennis shoes good for you. But please don't make it seem like the rest of us out there are trying to be fake or anything like that.

By the way Maggie if you are reading this I forgot to say I like your site. And my comment above was nothing personal just my opinion on your opinion. :)
Posted by: Valarie | February 22, 2008 at 11:21 AM
"Frumpadinka" is my new favorite word.
And, I tagged you for a meme -- hee, hee! :)
Posted by: Carrie | February 22, 2008 at 12:11 PM
Love your site as always. I am all for being real under your makeup, to follow the train of thought. You don't have to be "fake" to want to look good wherever you go! There is definitely a balance that can be achieved for each person on what they need for their own confidence and as we have seen on these makeover shows, some people do need a little help seeing how a little can go a long way in making them feel better about themselves.
Thanks for the post!

I'm starting to totally love Fridays! I think I may have to start planning ahead, so that I can have my FTF post ready BEFORE 2:30 in the afternoon!!
Have a great weekemd!

ROFLOL. Fussy, you so make me laugh. I'm sure laughter is an excellent way to "fight the frump". Wearing a smile instead of a frown has GOT to be a great frump-fighting idea. :)
Guess what - my parcel arrived!!!!! Woo Hoo!!! Thank you SO much. HUGE ((((HUGS)))). I blogged all about it today. :) Thanks for making me smile Fussy.

Oooh, I forgot to say. I sent a little mailing pigeon in your direction. So be sure to keep your eyes peeled. Oh, and he might need a little snack by the time he gets all the way to your place. ;)

I thought of you when I was watching!

Sometimes its hard to fight the frump when your muffin top has gotten a little out of control! But it's important to look like you care. I always feel better when I've made the effort. That was a great show. I want a trench coat now {to cover up the muffin top}

I love this site! It's so important for a mommy to take care of herself--if we don't, what lesson are we teaching our kids for later in life?
I loved the make-over and I like the heels (but then of course I am 5"2) :)

Oh forgot to give you my goal--trash the too big, too loose, just after baby clothes (or at least hide them). I always seem to wear them during homeschool--so gosh darn comfy but so gosh darn FRUMPY!

I love your fight the frump stuff, Alli. I just never can seem to apply it well to myself. Oh well.
