Fight the Frump...Jeans vs Skirts
Because I focus on the deeply important life issues...
How do we make our thighs and backsides look better? Jeans vs skirts.
We all know my stance against the dreaded mom jeans. Pleats! Shield your eyes!
High waists + tapered legs = hall of shame.
For great tips on pants read this installment of Fight the Frump.
What if we really stepped out of our comfort zones and tried something new?
What if (take a deep breath and have a seat) we tried skirts?
Did you faint, my wonderful Friend of Fussy? Wake up, it's OK. Give me a chance.
A nice skirt can do wonders all year round. Who says trying to stretch fabric over our amazingly toned and small thighs is comfortable? The right skirt is so much more flattering and comfortable!
Take a look at what I found from J.Jill.
Now not all skirts are flattering. Just stay away from all denim for now, 'kay? Trust me.
I have often expressed my deep and profound love of Chico's Travelers line of clothes. They are impossible to stain, wrinkle or shrink. My children have put my pieces to the test in some unspeakable ways. ~fussy shudders at the memories!~
Remember the line from Steel Magnolias when Dolly Parton says she hadn't left the house without Lycra on her thighs since she was 14? Olympia Dukakis tells her that her momma raised her right!
I give you the wonder that is spanx. (Stop laughin'!)
Now let's have a word from our dear friend Tim.
Mr. Gunn says we should have a Mr. Linky for all you frump fighters. It would be a no-rules deal. You could post about a great deal on clothes/cosmetics, how you burned that 15 year old bra, a new product/outfit you adore, your progress with diet or exercise -anything that celebrates your efforts to fight the frump.
In true Fussy style, let's take a vote!
Dear my beloved subscribers (thank you for subscribing!), to view the poll please click through to view the regular site. I still don't know why y'all can't see the polls. Sorry! ;)
Love, Fussy

Ugh, mom jeans. They hurt my eyes when I see them.
I am a big fan of wearing skirts often. Even here in the winter. I love them with my sweet boots and I feel not so much like a mom. Rounding the corner toward a milf.

I recently bought a skirt and a dress for the first time since I was in primary school.
I ADORE them. They make me feel so good about myself.
Also the polls? I can't see it. It couldbe my connectiong though. Goodness knows it has been playing up.

I love the skirts, especially the swingy ones!
Love the new header, Fussy! Love how you share the luv! MWAH!

I am sure I just posted a comment. It must have gotten lost! *cry*
The poll is showing up for me now. It wasn't before.
I know! The poll is actually hungry and won't show up until it has eaten a comment or two.

Fight the Frump Friday are my fave posts! I don't have a blog though. :)

Thanks, Mrs F! I love skirts!! I do have two (very non-mom, well-fitting) pair of jeans, but I hardly ever wear them. I live in my skirts!

I have a clothes addiction. Lots of skirts. Lots of jeans from high school I refuse to get rid of (it's only been 11 years!). Pencil skirts for political events where I have to ask people for money for my candidates.
My butt looks best in Express jeans and Citizens of Humanity jeans.
I do Bikram yoga when I can to keep my bum likeable. It keeps me honest since I am sweating my self out in like the skimpiest outfit ever among 20 year-olds doing the same thing. It sucks!
If only I had time to fix my Texican hair to go with the outfit, that would be nice. I guess I'd have to wash it first, too. And that involves turning on the shower, right? And so I'd need a clean towel.
Too much work!

I am in love with skirts! I discovered them as the best summer attire ever, but in winter I find them too cold. Plus I'm not a boots wearer, sadly. I much prefer slip on mules and to wear them with heavy stockings and a skirt leaves an impression more reminiscent of peasants than class.

I love skirts - actually that's all I wear and I always get compliments on "how nice I look" even when I feel frumpy! I actually enjoy these posts too but I'm not much on style - I don't think I could write about it well... I guess I'll leave that to you!
Posted by:Blessed | February 01, 2008 at 08:02 AM
You know, I used to wear skirts all the time, and I got out of the habit? But I think I'm going to head over to J Jill this weekend and check it out. Maybe I'll find sometihng good.

Once, a good friend of mine complimented me on how nice I always looked. I had to admit that I'd gained a couple pounds and was tired of fitting my thighs into my shorts!
It was then my love affair with skirts happened!
So happy y'all like the post!
Love, Alli

I wish I went someplace that necessitated the wearing of the skirt. I'm sorry, Alli. I'm a frump with mom jeans. I have a tiny waist and a big butt. Gotta have something that fits.

Y'know I really need to give skirts more of a try. For some reason I always think summer for skirts so I've been living in jeans since October. Am so sick of jeans already (not frumpy but still so bored of them). Got to give those skirts another try.

i wear them casual or dressed up.

I just *had to say you smelled like old socks. :D
Posted by:Ivy | February 01, 2008 at 10:05 AM
For a while I really LOVED denim skirts.
Then I saw a picture of me from behind in one. Good grief.

When I saw someone said I smelled of old socks & was in Nashville...
I knew it was BadbadIvy! ;)
LOL!

I'm just a baby. But I will find something fashionable to post about. And I will get me some new skirtage soon! You make this world a better place, Fussy!
Posted by:Emily R | February 01, 2008 at 10:28 AM
My legs are too short for long skirts and too old for short ones!
P.S. I posted the video to the "Mom Jeans" on my blog 5/13/2007, take a peek, and the sad thing is ... I used to wear them! The high waisted ones were once in style, but never the elastic waisted ones, not even when I was pregnant.
Posted by:Nancy | February 01, 2008 at 10:36 AM
I can totally embrace wearing skirts, I love them and have more skirts than pants of any kind, including sweats!
But I do love my high waist and tapered legs. I did a poll on it recently, and more people said they wear the high waist than any other kind. (elastic came in with a ZERO, thankfully! Whew!)
I got out of my comfort zone last month and bought a lower waist and flared legs so I could be cool and not embarass my teens. They like it and after a month of wearing it, I still hate it. Too bad for me it is the only pair of pants that fit me.

I'm a skirt girl in the summer but switch back to pants for winter. My jeans are mid rise. I just can't do the low rise thing without looking silly. I really am more comfortable in skirts. I feel so much better about myself. Maybe I need to get some more tights so that skirts are more comfortable right now.

Sarcastic Mom LOVES jeans, but thinks all "Mom Jeans" should be burned at the stake. Or steak. Yeah, steak - I'm hungry. Burn yo jeans and make me a steak, ladies! Sarcastic Mom's HUNGRAY.
ALSO? Sarcastic Mom actually LOVES A-Line skirts! Woot! Does a body good!
I will link up on a lovely Mr. Linky whenever I have a post that would make sense. I loves ya, lady! :-)

Am. Not. giving up my jean skirt.
Posted by:Queen of Shake Shake | February 01, 2008 at 12:16 PM
skirts are REALL tough to get right. they need to be the right length. the right shape. the right fabric. once you've figured out what works for you...they are awesome!
there's nothing wrong with a denim skirt...as long as it's the RIGHT denim skirt.
Posted by:ali | February 01, 2008 at 12:21 PM
This may be a stupid question but do you wear underwear with spanx?
Thank you
Posted by:Jen Lyons | February 01, 2008 at 01:17 PM
I love jeans...but I gave up the tapered leg in 1992 and the pleats in 1988. Ugh.
But I have to say I enjoy an easy to wear skirt. Especially a long one so I don't have to shave my legs (I know - that is frumpy but I only have so much energy some days).
Posted by:Michelle | February 01, 2008 at 01:27 PM
I only wear skirts but I have some that need to be tossed. That Chico's skirt is too cute I must add that to my collection.
By the way, I love the Valentine Decor you've got going on here!

I'm so frumpy! You could do a frump post everyday, I need so much help! I've included my url this time for you; it's a brand new blog, but it needs constructive criticism...and attention.
Love ya, Fussy!

OK, you style mavens (ali & Heather) if y'all have a good denim skirt, go for it. ;)
It's just too easy for the rest of us to get denim oh-so wrong!
Posted by:Alli ~Mrs. Fussypants | February 01, 2008 at 02:06 PM
I am not a fan of skirts. I think it is because I have the suckiest legs ever.
Also, I just don't like the draft or my legs hitting each other.
I'm not a fan of nightgowns, either.
Maybe I'll try to change that this summer.
Posted by:Loralee | February 01, 2008 at 02:09 PM
I love skirts. Love. Them. Especially long ones with long boots...yes! Jeans hurt. In more ways than one. And also? I freeze my ass of in them.
Posted by:Laura | February 01, 2008 at 03:37 PM
I have finally embraced the winter skirt since I got some killer boots from Christmas. Since then I have bought three skirts to go with my boots. I am suddenly back in style!! Yeah!!
Posted by:Nancy | February 01, 2008 at 03:38 PM
I think I am going to dress as a mom for Halloween, mom jeans, the tucked in button up shirt, clogs, a braid belt, headband, and a tray of cookies. Thank you for the inspiration! Off to study now.

the woman who invented spanx should be given some kind of national award. they seriously shrink me 2 sizes and make me stand up all nice and straight (I just can't sit down for more than like 5 minutes--but that's okay :)!)
Trying to fight the frump here!
Posted by:Jennifer Peterson | February 01, 2008 at 04:48 PM
There wasn't really an option on your poll that fitted me. I'd certainly read but maybe not contribute. Need all the help I can get!!!! ;)
Have at agree with you on those jeans though. I wasn't aware you could still BUY such things. I'm a bit of a jeans girls myself. But NOTHING like those you pictured!!!
Love skirts but finding something practical and affordable isn't easy around these parts.
Posted by:Lightening | February 01, 2008 at 04:51 PM
The 'mom' would be a great costume!
Jennifer- yep, I can't sit or breathe either! ;)
Posted by:Alli ~Mrs. Fussypants | February 01, 2008 at 04:52 PM
I'm with whomever said they wished they had someplace to wear a skirt. I usually wear jeans to church because I always spend at least half the time in the nursery.
Posted by:jenni | February 01, 2008 at 05:00 PM
OMG! Save us all fom the mom jeans! If those EVER come back in style, count me out. I'd rather be livin' in another decade than wear that!
Posted by:Carrie | February 01, 2008 at 05:36 PM
Sure, skirts are great. Unless your legs look like toothpicks stuck into dinner rolls. I have no choice, I'm stuck with pants. But that doesn't mean they have to be mom jeans. ;)
Posted by:Marie | February 01, 2008 at 07:05 PM
Fussy, I usually agree with your Fight the Frump (and love reading it), but will disagree about the Jean Skirt! I have several and love them all...
But I will back you on the "Mom Jeans" angle...especially when its men that are wearing them!
Posted by:CourtneyRyan369 | February 01, 2008 at 07:06 PM
I offer the cute, flirty skirt in exchange for the other horror of mommyhood...the mommy shorts (gag!) As long as it isn't windy, its a much better choice!
Posted by:HRH | February 01, 2008 at 07:42 PM
Sorry I think I am wearing mom jeans right now, but I got dressed in the dark this morning and there is a foot of snow on the ground. I think mom jeans are the least of my problems right now.
Posted by:Jennifer | February 01, 2008 at 08:59 PM
I just passed out with joy. I heart Chico's. For the very reasons you mention. And I could wear the size 1 my entire pregnancy.
Heh, I'm wearing Chico's shirt right now.
Have you seen the Hawtalucion button? check out my left sidebar :)

OK, Washington State & Texas say I smell of old socks. LOL! I don't recognize the cities from the map. I'm stumped!
Fess up TX & WA. :)

I love love love Chicos. I'm happy to say my closet is free of mom jeans. But I'm sure it contains other punishable offenses.
Posted by:Jennifer | February 01, 2008 at 11:24 PM
Haven't worn jeans or pants in years - love love love skirts, dresses and yes (sigh) jumpers.
Posted by:Quietmom | February 01, 2008 at 11:25 PM
I love skirts of all kinds. When I lived in a winter-prone area I used to wear 5 skirts layered with tights and boots. But lately I've just been wearing lots of sweats and yoga pants - I'm 4 weeks post-partum, so nothing really fits yet. Besides, I almost never leave the house due to a colicky baby girl (she's slowly getting better as I adjust my diet).
I LOVE Fight the Frump, but I barely do anything with my blog, so I'll read and maybe comment, but please give me time to figure out a schedule before I commit to doing anything at all. (Sorry, the third baby is so much harder than I thought she would be.)
