Fight the Frump -Hose? Oh Noes!

Fightfrumpbutton_2

Warm weather is here, the rules of fashion are relaxed and the livin' is easy. Today I must take a stand against one of the ugliest and most common summer fashion faux-pas, wearing hose with open-toe shoes or even ~shudders~ sandals.

Yes, Friends of Fussy, it does still happen. Every weekend the nations churches and synagogues are filled with beautiful women, dressed in their best attire and looking beautiful, but then you see the feet. The feet have hose (which I love when worn correctly) and open toe-d heels. As I researched this post I found 'fashion' advice saying that this is acceptable as long as the toe is not reinforced. OK, Hello, No. It is NOT OK. Anyone that says this is OK must be off her style-deprived rocker.

Hose I needed pictures of this dreaded fashion don't. It was very hard to find. I found this picture that is supposedly stylish.

Stylish to whom? I can't imagine.

So then I found a huge Flickr photoset full of nifty hose & open toe heel pictures. I was struck by how lucky I was that so many of the pics were on my topic.

"Wow, this person must be concerned about this fashion faux-pas also. How dandy!" Then I realized that it was probably some weirdo who has a thing for feet. Ewwwww. I had to go bleach my eyeballs.

Anyhoo, a blogger has gotta do what a blogger has got to do, I need photos of the atrocity known as 'Hose? Oh Noes!' Just try to forget the origin, k?

Hose_nightmare

I did not know this trifecta of bad taste could even exist- mules, Shiny hose and an ankle bracelet. Really? Someone thought this looks good? Really?

First of all, if you are like me, you fall off the heel of your shoes anyway (shut up, you do too). Can you imagine slippery hose in some mules? Impossible.

But the worst offense in this photo is the ankle bracelet. If you have one please never tell me. I'll be so disappointed. Just dispose of it quickly. Then never speak of it again.

Hose_yuck

Every gal loves a fun night out on the town. We love to dress up and go out with our lesser halves. We love wearing cute strappy shoes and reveling in the freedom of not having a toddler on the hip, a baby nursing or a teen rolling his eyes at us. However, you must be careful not to go too far. Strappy shoes with high gloss hose gives one impression- trashy!

So what can we all agree on? Whether you are kicking your heels up with the girls, out on a date with Hubs, or singing praise on Sunday morning; never ever wear hose when you show your toes!

Now it is your turn. Be sure type your name & the post's topic on the first line and link your specific post's URL on the second. Use the Fight the Frump button, link back here in your post and have fun!

Love, Fussy

EEK - this is almost as horrid as the photo of Tom Cruise on yesterday's post!

"First of all, if you are like me, you fall off the heel of your shoes anyway (shut up, you do too). "

I <3 Fussy. I'll say it loud and proud... I have even fallen, but I won't give up. So, yeah, no to hose.

Bleach my eyeballs....**snork** that's a great one. Hee hee.

what is the problem with the ankle bracelets?

Aiiieeeee!!! *covers eyes* I can't wear anything like a hose, especially on summer. I mean, I myself sweat too much so you can just imagine the horror of wearing one.

Personally, I avoid hose anyway, anywhere I can get away with it. Like the "bleach my eyeballs" too! Happy FFF!

AMEN, Sistah! Thank you for this much needed public service announcement.

Fussy,I am so afraid that those might be a man's feet...flickr groups can be so frightening.

And so can hose! Good thinking. Seeing beautiful naked toes in the summer is a good thing.

I can't remember the last time I wore actual pantyhose. Sheer, nude or even black? Nope. It's been a looooooong time!

Gross! I've never liked hose with open toed shoes, either.

i'm throwing up in my mouth a little bit.

hose? with sandals?
are there really people who do that??
REALLY?

I have to add my 2 cents. Never wear black hose with white shoes. This does not work!

Hose in the summer is just wrong to begin with but with sandals? Ugh - makes me think of Three's Company!

I do own an ankle bracelet. BUT in my defense, the only time it ever exits my jewelry box is when we take a beach vacation. For some reason I always feel compelled to wear one at the beach. Then we return home and it goes away again for another year or two.

Thank you for saying this! I hate hate hate this.

If only more of the world agreed with me...Sigh.

Great tip Fussy.

So true -- thanks for taking a stand against all that is just plain ol' wrong in the world of fashion. Seeing hose with sandals drives me crazy, too. I mean, doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of the sandals, anyway?

I don't understand why people think this looks nice! AND I don't understand why all the research points to it being OK! Hopefully some of these people will read your post and realize how "Frumpy" they look.

Great FTF, Mrs. Fussy! Hose with sandals? *shudder*

I'm hoping that you'll do a FTF for moms with newborns. My little guys is one week old today, and I'm feeling kinda frumpy. I want to look nice but nothing fits! And what does fit makes me feel frumpy. How do you FTF while nursing a newborn, taking care of older kiddos, and mending your body?

Why in the name of Yves St Lauren would anyone think that it is okay to wear the ankle braclet INSIDE the pantyhose?

Also worse than this are the pantyhose with no toes so that you can wear them with sandals.

Either embrace your whiteness or invest in some faux tanning. I have a post on it. You will not be frumpy. I will link to it. You will be brown and hot, and maybe not smell like jerky.

Amen, sistah! Can I remind all women over the age of 40, you MAY NOT take advantage of your years and wear BROWN nylons with WHITE open-toe sandals. MAY NOT!!! NOT EVEN IF YOU'RE 80!!! Phew. I got that out of my system. I think this is an evil that was hatched in the 80's where some women got stuck and never escaped. I can scarcely bear to wear hose in the first place, but when I'm wearing my lovely strappies, no way baby!

Fussy you are so smart. I've posted before about the whole ankle bracelet thing.

Hose are just out, period. In winter, tights are OK or sheer dark colored hose. But any nude shade of hose is never fashionable anymore, even with closed toe shoes. And no hose in warm weather. Buy Jergen's tanning lotion and use every day and go hoseless.

Unless you are over 70. Then you can do whatever the hell you want.

again--hilarious. bleaching your eyeballs! ha!
I am 1000% against the hose with sandals. I see it ALL THE TIME. ack!

Worse than ankle bracelets? THE TOE RING.
YUCKYUCKYUCK

A-MEN! On both the hose and the ankle bracelet!

hee hee! great photos!
What are mules? open back shoes?

~Amy

While I totally agree and personally think hose should be outlawed, (especially with sandals and open-toed shoes), there is an older generation that feels that a woman without hose is immodest. My mother - for one. She cringes at my hoselessness. Some churches frown on this too. Not that I'm defending this fashion faux-pas, but there are well-meaning people who do do this for modesty reasons. I don't understand it, but I can respect their opinion.

HILARIOUS! Ok, confession time.. I.never.wear.hose. I can't stand the feel of them not to mention that my feet slide all around my shoes when wearing hose. I am all about showing off bare feet.. nicely manicured, of course!

LOL, Hos Oh Noes.

I forgot to mention my post has a COUPON for Veet.

I never wear hose, either. (However, like Katrine, I do wear an ankle bracelet at the beach. Something about the sun, surf and sand that makes me feel like decorating my ankle.)

I confess, however, to wearing black tights in the winter. It's not uncommon for me to be wearing knee-high black boots, black tights and a slightly-above knee pencil skirt. I suspect it's one of those "1997 called and wants its outfit back" looks... but Hubby loves it.

I think panty hose were created to oppress women. Knee highs are especially evil. And don't get me going on those ped thingies. Hmmm, grumpy, must need more sleep.

exactly

Ew.

Now, I have worn ankle bracelets.

And I kiss my Michael Shannon heeled "mules" before I go to sleep at night.

But with hose? Never.

Since I didn't get an answer about what MULES are...I looked it up-
http://shoes.about.com/od/glossaryofshoestyles/g/mule_mules.htm

I got that idea from the picture above but I wanted to make sure. Glad to know.

I have to disagree on the ankle bracelets and toe rings. I think they are very sexy and feminine on a beautiful pair of tanned, smooth legs. (Not with hose of course!)

who knew there is a glossary of shoes?

sorry i wasn't able to get back to you in time! ;)

That second picture could be my MIL. Seriously.

I'm so glad to hear someone yelling loudly that hose are out. The college I attended made hose mandatory and I swore when I got out that I'd burn every single pair and never don another.

Thank you, Fussy. You do good work here. Now if only I could get most of the women in my town to heed your advice.

one often searched for word on my blog is 'toeless stockings' Man they cost an arm and a leg but are so worth it!

Honestly? I live in Florida - hose are never going to touch my legs again. And when I did wear them, it was never with open toed shoes. But I have to tell you, I disagree about the ankle bracelet. Of course, never inside the hose - but I do love to wear a pretty little anklet and I'm not against toe rings if they're small and pretty. And the strappy, super-high heels with the shiny hose? I think "trashy" was the look she was going for. I'm just sayin'.

Ok, I have worn super shear toe-less hose with peak toe heals. It is the best of both worlds smooth legs, control top and nobody is the wiser. Truly. They are only available at department stores tho.

I can't even wear heels at all. I had to mention your frumpy no-nos in my latest blog entry though. Check it out. I rarely blog about anything fashion related, but this topic NEEDED to be addressed!
