Ok, I admit it, swimsuit wearing is not my favorite activity. Every moment I am forced in public while naked in a swimsuit, I just want to change into something more, um, comfortable. Like this...
Do any of us feel good in bathing suits? I see women, some more eye-pleasing than others, looking a wee-bit too comfortable at the pool. Ack.
As another Fight the Frump public service I am here to tell all women to back away from their thongs and bedazzeled swimwear. Let's take a look at the common graphic used to help women decide their body type.
My answer to the swimsuit delimma- Miraclesuit. On the outside it looks like a normal suit, but inside it is reinforced with a swat-team strength corset. Amazing! Shall I model one for ya?
OK, here is my problem, When wearing a supa-fab flab hiding suit I kinda...um, well,......(lean in closer...closer to the screen...*whispers*...my hips and upper thighs, well, um...oh, alright, 5 kids, you figure it out. It is not pretty!)
So, I love a well-made Miraclesuit slip-on skirt. The fabric matches perfectly and skims over places that otherwise would be a bumpy trainwreck.
Now I know y'all love your tankinis and look awesome in them. More power to ya. Next summer I hope to rawk the tankini, but for now, I'll take my steel encased corset. ;)

Now it is your turn, Frump Fightin' Friends of Fussy, share your journey of not turning into your mom! I have a fun graphic, feel free to use it if you like. Just be sure to link to your specific post and link back here on your post. Have fun, and have I mentioned how beautiful you look today? You do!
Love, Fuss

So are you saying that the models in the "body type" photo aren't all the same woman? Can I buy one of them and let them wear my bathing suit for me?

LOL Fussy! You sure do know how to make me feel good about myself. Mind you, I have only had two kids so more power to you for having five!!
Yeah, I must admit that I try to avoid the swimsuit look as well. Although, since I have taken up hiking/trekking, I must admit that my shape is improving. Who knows, by the time summer hits here in Oz again, I may venture out and buy a new suit. Nothing skimpy though. Just something that flatters... if there is such a thing!!

Oh please! Just say NO to the skirted swimsuit! If it's a separate piece and/or a cover-up skirt, fine. But those little skirted ruffles or the swimsuit that kind or looks like a short dress. Ugh! It just looks like you're trying to cover something up!
My fav, my Speedo suit from Costco! It's tight (to hold in the baby belly) and simple (navy blue with white piping at the top to draw the eye up) and I love it!

i think i'll just crawl in a hole until summer is over.

Thanks for the bathing suit post! I definitely need a miracle suit slip-on skirt. I bought one of those suits with the skirt attached and I am totally hating it. So, yesterday, I pulled out an older bathing suit and well, hated it -- it totally put me in a bad mood the whole time. Hated it. Maybe now I will get on the right track.
thanks again!

I'm seriously thinking of getting a bathing suit with sleeves (yes, sleeves) to keep my skin out of the sun better. I love being out in it, but I do not love the freckles or the scary skin cancer thoughts. I've seen some cute surfer-type stuff but think I need to have a cute surfer-type body to pull it off.

Ugh.....bathing suits. It has been a year since I delivered Grace. I look like it was yesterday. I will say it again, Ugh....bathing suits.

Swim suits are the bane of every woman's existence. I got a new suit this year and looked so good on me that I threatened to wear it grocery shopping. Really, it was more flattering than my jean shorts and tee. (Because we all know how flattering that is.)
But then I came home and tried it on. While it's not bad, it's not all that. Stupid dressing room mirrors that lie to you...

I love that you brought up the "body type" models. I'm a thin chick, but, well...not so endowed. ;) Those body types don't match anyone but super elite supermodels. :P
Personally, I rawk the tankini. Thanks for the swimsuit post!

Seriously, I just gave up this summer. The boys can swim with Daddy. I'd rather stick a fork in my eye. ;)

Thankyouthankyouthankyou for the rubber ducky censoring. Perfect thighs make me nauseous.

Those body type models - I swear they are all the same girl.
I found a super cute tankini this year that doesn't make me want to die (and that's as good as it gets).

I rock the skirt all day long. No one will be seeing my upper thighs in public.
Posted by: nicole | July 11, 2008 at 08:44 AM
i dunno. i'm kinda anti bathing suit skirt. no one looks model-thin in bathing suit...but a think any woman looks way sexier without the skirt...because she's OWNING her body.

Great post as always Fussy! I'm in search of a good swimsuit for this post baby body of mine. (It seems that the second time around, it's not going to snap back into place like the last time.)
Will go on over and try one of those miraclesuits out!

I love the summer! I love swimming so much that I refuse to be shamed by my flabby body in a bathing suit. I buy ones that I like, that I think make the most of my flabbiness, and then I wear them with pride. Rock on, Mommas!

Girlfriends, your self confidence is so cool.
Note to self- Learn to own it! ;)

Well, I AM trying to cover something up, lol. It's called CELL-U-LITE. I'm ALL about the skirted suit. I like a nice, tailored, slim skirt though. I also love the tankini. AND I like my skirt attached to my bottoms. I'm short-waisted, and the slip-on skirt sits up too high and looks funny. Lands End are my personal faves.
Great FTF post, Fussypants!!

Foo-say, what a great, informative post! I HATE those swimsuit models - I mean, c'mon!
No FTF post from me today, but WHEW! I have a GREAT idea of what not to wear at the golf course. We stopped by there today - ahhhhh, my eyes! They're bleeding!

I need a new suit too. Maybe I'll look for one just like this so that I can match Mrs Foosay!
lol

Buying a swim suit ranks up there with purchasing a vehicle.

Bathing suits...really...no thanks...maybe next year.

YAY for a skirt on a swimsuit! No more worrying about swimsuit-wedgie, upper thighs that keep moving after the rest of me stops, or the impossible-to-maintain bikini line (wax at Madame Tussaud's = good; wax near my hoo-hoo, not so much). Glad it gets the Official Fussypants Seal of Approval!

Ahhhh. I hate those "choose your body types" articles. Why do none of them have butts you can balance a plate on?
Posted by: Ree | July 11, 2008 at 09:04 PM
I'm not really a swimsuit fan either - don't feel bad!

Great post! I especially found it useful where you stated. I love you, i love this site ;)

I'm all about steel encased swimsuits. Preferably under the full body coveralls. Oy.
Posted by: Redneck Mommy | July 13, 2008 at 01:13 PM
When I put a suit on I make sure I wrap towels from my neck down... No way I'm showing anything down to my fat knees..
Cute post....

I swear to goodness my swimsuit has more material than my prom dress. Wish I were kidding. :P

I gotta get me one of them skirts! I got a FAB tankini from *gasp* Sam's Club this year (VERY cute and $22!) and the only "gotcha" was that it shows just a bit much of my cottage cheese thighs. I braved it for several days in a water park with my fam and had a great time, but to truly be comfortable I'd LOVE a skirt. Will have to look for a brown one to match my suit!

How about GOUCHOS? Are those still fashionable? They would make the perfect coverup for those flapping thighs, non? I'd like to start a new fashionable goucho trend for those of us whose thighs cannot be controlled by a short skirt.
